Original Whimsical Acrylic Paintings for Sale

Original Whimsical Acrylic Paintings for Sale

I call these new whimsical, acrylic paintings my 2017 Baja Series as I created them while down in Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico this year.

They are acrylic on wood panel with 3/8″ to 1/2″ black painted sides and a 3/8″ to 1/2″ wood block glued on the back of the painting so they stick out from the wall. They are wired and ready to hang.

They all have vibrant colors and I love the way they came out!

The backs are painted black and I’ve signed, dated and titled each piece on the back with my lucky silver pen.

Bicycle and Raven painting

Bicycle and Raven painting

I just got my mt. bike tuned up and it’s been fun riding it! The gears weren’t shifting properly but now they are all good!

I love my bike and I love creating bicycle and raven paintings. I have quite a few of them now.

Here’s the latest one.

I titled it Yay! Joy Ride! because that is how I feel when I’m riding…I feel pretty joyful and happy! I think mt. biking was the first time I ever felt the word “glee”!

Colorful Tree Art – Watch the Sun, Follow the Stars

Colorful Tree Art – Watch the Sun, Follow the Stars

Sometimes I visualize a story behind my painting and write a few words to illustrate it as if my image were in a storybook.

This is what came to me for this painting titled “Watch the Sun, Follow the Stars.”

“If you look up during the day you can watch the sun. It moves over the forest and fields. At night, branches cover overhead like a blanket of thorny thicket. I make my way through the forest by following the stars as they peek through the branches. I look over yonder and see shooting stars fall like fireworks in the sky. I know life is a miracle and the forest holds magic.

There was one tree that was my favorite. It was an elder Tree. As ancient as the sky is wide.

It wore the tapestry of it’s knowledge, etched in patterns and colors to match the rainbow….”

New Flying Fish Painting

I have a new colorful, flying fish painting titled “A Fantastic Journey.” It’s a magical forest with a wise owl, one flying fish and wind swept leaves cavorting under a glowing moon.

I wanted to create something that is not of this world. Where do you find flying fish but in a magical forest.

I have some new acrylic paintings

Yesterday I mentioned how I use trees a lot in my work. I do love the tree image. I have a few new acrylic paintings I’d like to share with you that have trees in them.

The first one was painted for the May show at the Tumalo Art Co.gallery in Bend, Oregon. The theme of the show was to take one of three landscape photographs by Bruce Jackson and use that as a starting point to create a painting from.

I chose Bruce’s photo “Twilight Fire.”

My intention was to take the image of “Twilight Fire” and make an abstract painting from it.

Inspired by the magnificent color in Bruce’s photo, my painting evolved as if it had a life of it’s own. The color definitely took over! I don’t often paint landscapes and when I do they are usually from my imagination.

Bruce’s photo was a stepping stone for me to leap into the unknown of which “Kaleidoscope Mountain” came forth. It didn’t turn out as abstract as I had intended but I was happy with the results.

I painted it on a reclaimed wood panel so it has a warm, honey brown frame around it. Kaleidoscope Mountain is now showing through May at the Tumalo Art Co.

I’ve been painting more whimsical tree paintings and wanted to share two of them.

"Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies" New Acrylic Painting

I made a print from my new painting. The painting is titled “Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies.”

lanternsandfirefiies-saying

On the print of this painting, I added these words:

May you be courageous in

spite of your fears and see that

as your life has changed course

you are surrounded with love.

May that light of love

illuminate darkened paths,

lighten your spirit and

help you to find your way.

Here’s the painting in my art studio. It is an acrylic on canvas that is 40″ tall x 30″ wide, the sides are painted black. The colors are very luminous from lots of layering.

This is the painting that started out being inspired from a rug that’s in our master bath. This painting came out completely different from what I intended. I was going to do a wall of petroglyphs between the trees but then lanterns and fireflies appeared and it turned another direction. Funny how things happen like that….sort of like Life.

I dedicate this painting and print to all those who are going through a tough time right now.

We're on Our Way

The Trees Sing to the RiverThe Trees Sing to the River,
Acrylic on Paper, Framed 24″ x 20″
By L. Gruger

Oh Happy Day, we’re on our way!

It’s been a very hectic week! But tomorrow we leave on our road trip to Baja, Mexico – destination, Todos Santos.

It will be a long drive from Bend, Oregon! We had lots to pack but now we’re done! Hopefully we’ll be up early and on the road by 8 a.m. That’s the plan anyway.

I didn’t get all my paintings done. But I got some finished and they will be down at the Tumalo Art Co. gallery for sale.

It seems these smaller birch tree paintings are studies for larger ones I will do in the future. I think I’m going to like them even more when they’re large.

I was also interviewed this week by Art Calendar magazine and will have an artist profile article in the July/Aug. magazine. So that is exciting.

I’ll try to post some photos from our trip later in the week.

Be well everyone!
