Online Art Sale of Mini Paintings

Are you looking for some affordable original art? A cute gift to give someone special? I have colorful mini paintings for sale. I’ve been inspired by the idea of “paint what you love” that Flora Bowley talked about in her painting e-course. I had a square of material that had cowboy boots on it. I had purchased some soap that was wrapped up in it. I love this piece of cloth and had it in my studio. Inspired, soon I…

Development of a painting – Protecting the Nest III

I was painting about a dozen canvases and pieces on wood while I was taking the Bloom True e-course by Flora Bowley. I’m still working on some of the pieces and they are developing and changing and don’t look anything like the way they started. It’s always interesting to me to watch a painting develop. In the future I’ll be posting some of these pieces to show you. What I love about the Bloom True e-course is you can take…

Mini painting sale sneak peak

I’ve been having fun painting feathers. There’s something about feathers that inspires me. Maybe it is their symbolic meaning of lightness or nesting. Or maybe flight and taking off on adventurous journeys. I just like them and I like collecting them and now I like painting them. This is one of my small feather paintings that will be available in my mini painting sale coming up in April. I’m also working on some minis which include 5″ x 5″ canvas…

What I'm Learning in the Bloom True e-course

I am really loving the Bloom True e-course by Flora Bowley. It’s such a nice mix of video’s, instruction, interviews, sketchbook time, gratefulness, yoga, etc. It is truly a mind, body, spirit type of class and it is just what I had hoped it would be. I understand why it is titled the “brave, intuitive you” e-course. It definitely takes being brave to push oneself to make authentic paintings based on the symbols, and marks from one’s intuitive and true…

Learning new approaches in my art

As I wrote earlier, I’m taking the super awesome painting e-course by Flora Bowley called Bloom True. But it’s not just about painting! It’s about intuition, meditation, playfulness, yoga, letting go, not judging, trusting the process, being open and a whole lot more! I just love it! I’m painting on 2 canvases (actually wood boards) for the class but then I have a bunch more pieces I’m working on too.  I’m incorporating what I’ve learned from the course with a…

We're Living in a Shoe

Greg said the other day, “We’re living in a shoe.” That cracked me up! We are staying in a small space! It may feel like a shoe but it’s a a Supreme Rocket! A Silver Streak trailer. And it’s magical at night when we turn on the star lights at dusk. And look out at the canyon. And the reflections bounce about from the breeze and cast diamond shaped shadows. We are enjoying ourselves and I know all those times…

I have a tipi art studio for 5 weeks

For the next 5 weeks, my art studio is a lovely tipi! It’s awesome! I feel like I’m on a painting retreat. Many of you know that I own my own tipi so when I found out that the place where we are temporarily staying at had a tipi on the property, I was very happy! There’s just something about tipis that I love. Maybe it’s the cozy womb-like feeling inside a tipi. I knew it would make a great art studio…

How I got inspired by lanterns

This lantern below was made by my fiancé Greg Gaskill. I’ve been watching him create beautiful raku ceramic lanterns. Raku Lantern by Greg Gaskill, sold We’ve talked about how they illuminate and cast shadows. We’ve talked about the other lanterns we have in our home. The hanging one’s we have on the back deck that are made of punched tin from Mexico. I love the star pattern on them. Then there are the solar lanterns we have along the walkway. And the…

"Two Ravens Sit and Reflect" Painting Series

I wanted to share two raven paintings that I finished the other day. I’ve been working on this raven series titled “Two Ravens Sit and Reflect” for awhile now and I finished two more paintings for it. I like the play on words that I use in the titles for these paintings. The first one is titled “Two Ravens Sit and Reflect on the Waves.” Inspired from when we went to the beach the other day and watched the surfers…

I have some new acrylic paintings

Yesterday I mentioned how I use trees a lot in my work. I do love the tree image. I have a few new acrylic paintings I’d like to share with you that have trees in them. The first one was painted for the May show at the Tumalo Art Co.gallery in Bend, Oregon. The theme of the show was to take one of three landscape photographs by Bruce Jackson and use that as a starting point to create a painting…

Symbolism and Stories in my Art

There are lots of symbols and stories being told with my art. I’ve had a long facination with symbolism. One of my favorite books on archetypes and symbolism is “Women Who Run with the Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. One can learn many lessons about life from reading the stories in this book. The author’s explanations about the symbolism in these stories is really amazing. I love that the theme of some of these stories is in similar stories throughout…

"Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies" New Acrylic Painting

I made a print from my new painting. The painting is titled “Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies.” On the print of this painting, I added these words: May you be courageous in spite of your fears and see that as your life has changed course you are surrounded with love. May that light of love illuminate darkened paths, lighten your spirit and help you to find your way. Here’s the painting in my art studio. It is an…

Inspiration for my newest acrylic painting

I get inspired by so many things that influence my work but my latest painting (that I’m still working on) was inspired by this rug below. This floor covering lives in our master bath and I see it day in and day out. I began to wonder what it would be like to put two trees on either side of a large vertical painting and have something in the middle between them. Petroglyphs or symbols maybe? What I intended to…

An Original Acrylic Peace Tree Painting

My newest Peace Tree painting is titled “A Peace Tree Gathering“. I like the way the trees have their arms around each other. They are standing in community. The painting wraps around all the sides, top and bottom. I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the cool things I like about aspens are that they share a root system deep under ground. I like what I read on Wikipedia about them. There it says, “Each individual tree can live for…

Creating Figures in my Art

Sometimes I like to put figures in my work. Some of my early paintings from when I was in my 20’s had dancing yoga figures in them which I really like and have considered revisiting and creating more of. I like them because they feel tribal and earthy….and I like that they are celebrating something… Life, maybe? These figures are what led to my sitting yoga people paintings. These are figures who are holding the energy which is represented by…
