The Secret to Life as an Artist Series

I like to add inspiring quotes to my monthly art newsletters. I’ve been a collector of sayings and quotes for quite a while. I’ve filled up a bunch of empty books. (You can read about my empty books here>) My search for a great quote led me to one by Antoine de Saint-Exupery from one of my favorite books, “The Little Prince.” “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can…

My peace tree painting inspired 7th Graders in Illinois

On occasion, I’ll get an email from someone who has seen one of my images online or visited my youtube channel and lets me know they’re using my painting technique or image to inspire their own paintings or life.  I feel honored and humbled that my art is touching so many people! And I appreciate the feedback, it keeps me doing what I’m doing, creating uplifting art! A couple weeks ago, I got three emails in one week from three separate…

Inspirational Positive Affirmations Card Decks are here

You may recall that in 2010 I designed some mini inspirational card decks. I did a blog post about them and sold them in my Etsy Shop.  I now have new card decks for 2013! I’m a big fan of the idea that words are important! I was inspired by the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. One of the agreements is “Be impeccable with your word.” Louise Gale says, “Choosing good thoughts and feelings and reacting to…

Three Treasures from the Day

Our Native American Acoma Wedding Vase that we’ll use in our wedding ceremony on September 22. We purchased it from Vision Quest Traders and it’s made by Santana Phillips. We love the design.   Peace cranes that I’m folding for our wedding decorations. I learned how from a diagram I found on the web.   Greg’s wedding ring arrived in this gold box in a sparkly pouch! Fun! We bought it from the Silvercrush Shop on Etsy. Sorry you can’t see…

I recommend it for watching. You can learn about…

My 10 essentials list for being an artist

This list started out as my 10 essentials list for being an artist. But then it morphed. After thinking about each essential, I expanded on them with some description. And then the descriptions started to grow and encompass more than the essentials but that’s okay. It made me think about what I need and made me grateful for being an artist! This list is in no particular order. 1. paint:  acrylics, thick and fluid types, all the primary colors plus…

We are Baja Bound

Detail from Little Blue Beach Shack painting We’re taking a roadtrip and driving to Todos Santos again. It will be the third time we’ve made this drive! We are so looking forward to getting into some sunshine! I’ll be creating paintings and making some art videos while we are there. Today's Note from the Universe

I’m on various email lists as I’m sure you are too. I’d love to know some of your favorite ones. I get daily emails addressed “from the Universe.” They’re inspiring and fun and I enjoy reading their message.  See http://www.tut.com/theclub/ I like the motto on their website. Thoughts become things… choose the good ones. Here’s an excerpt of today’s email message: Even though you can’t physically see a tree growing, Lindy, doesn’t mean it’s not. Right? Same with the world spinning? Gravity…

100 Blog Topics for Artists

This is a blog post of 100 Blog Topics for artists. It is for artists who are trying to come up with ideas for what to write about. I’ve noticed I’m not blogging as much as I have been in the past and it’s partly because I’ve been having a hard time thinking up topics to blog about. So I thought maybe there are other artists having the same problem and could use some help with Blog Topic ideas. There…

"Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies" New Acrylic Painting

I made a print from my new painting. The painting is titled “Touching the Light: One Danced with the Fireflies.” On the print of this painting, I added these words: May you be courageous in spite of your fears and see that as your life has changed course you are surrounded with love. May that light of love illuminate darkened paths, lighten your spirit and help you to find your way. Here’s the painting in my art studio. It is an…

Inspiration for my newest acrylic painting

I get inspired by so many things that influence my work but my latest painting (that I’m still working on) was inspired by this rug below. This floor covering lives in our master bath and I see it day in and day out. I began to wonder what it would be like to put two trees on either side of a large vertical painting and have something in the middle between them. Petroglyphs or symbols maybe? What I intended to…

Today is about relaxing.

We had a nice little gathering of friends over on New Year’s eve. Small is good. We were able to visit, swing to some great tunes, eat yummy snacks, drink some lovely cocktails, play a little homemade pictionary, take photos and ring in the New Year! This is me, happy, happy,  just before midnight. Smiles to you all. I’ve taken to the couch today. Not because I’m hung over but because it’s great to relax! I’ve just been hanging out…

How to Love Your Sister

I have a big sister. Her name is Sherri. I call her Sher. She calls me by my middle name. I got to spend the day with her on Sunday. We just went shopping and out to lunch. Sure, it wasn’t that big of a deal. We hit a few after Christmas sales but our time together was special. We reminisced about our Mom who would have been joining us if she hadn’t died last Spring. We missed her. We…

You Are An Artist

A little reminder to be who you are and create the life you want! You are one of a kind. You are an artist. You dream in color. Your hands are busy. You put your head in the clouds and breathe deeply. You build tree houses and take naps in teepees. You love animals, big and small. Popsicles, dark chocolate and m & m’s stir your imagination. A cup of mint tea and one coffee creates a party for two.…

Inspirational Card Deck and New Whimsical Greeting Cards

As some of you know, I’ve been doing my positive affirmations on a daily basis. I like to pick an affirmation and then repeat it during the day. If you don’t know this now, then I will tell you…this commitment to yourself, committing to the possiblities of your dreams by saying positive affirmations and acknowledging where you want your life to lead, really works! It creates a shift. A movement toward  creating the life you want to live. I decided…

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

I was reading a post over at the http://clintwatson.net/blog called Nurturing Right Connections written by the artist Daniel J. Keys. He was talking about how important it is to surround ourselves with people, a community, who will help us to reach our full potential, to be lifted up and encouraged, to be understood that our passions and dreams bring us joy. Keys says, “We must consider our friends and companions wisely, and take into account that the right connections can further…

Three Treasures from the Day

Flowers picked by Greg for me. Finding an old life lessons list written… oooooohhh, maybe 15 years ago. That would make me 36 when I wrote this. The life lessons list reads: Lesson #1 Your Life is a gift. Lesson #2 Remember nothing is what it seems. Lesson #3 We’ll make regrets. Lesson #4 Be who you are, not who they want you to be. Lesson #5 Take your time. Lesson #6 Remember how fragile people’s emotions are. Lesson #7…
