2019 Celestial Print with Stars and Planets

celestial star and planet print

I’ve made a celestial print with Stars and planets because I’ve always loved celestial things. They are magical. I love the stars and the moon and what they represent. This is a giclée celestial print that will decorate any room in your house.

For me, the symbolism of celestial things is about how we are all connected. How the permanency of earthly beings is fleeting but the universe is endless!

The universe is always there and always will be. Long after we are not on this planet.

Inspired by quotes in celestial print

This celestial print is inspired by quotes that mention stars, the galaxy, planets and the universe.

“I think the Earth and everything around it is connected – the sky and the planets and the stars and everything else we see as a mystery.” — Sarah Brightman

“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” — Sarah Williams

“Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all.” — Vincent Van Gogh

Celestial Events

Last year, it was amazing to experience the solar eclipse. It was so cool with the infinity of the half moons floating around our yard. And recently, we experienced the lunar eclipse.

We are in Baja right now so we were able to see the lunar eclipse very clearly! It was if the moon was a little ball hanging in the sky and you could reach up and pluck it from the sky. The 3-D imagery of it was incredible.

These celestial events have inspired me to create a new print.

I’ve created a celestial star and planet print using some of the imagery from one of my paintings. It is a single mason jar filled with the universe. Pure magic in a jar.

You are stars and light

It is titled, “You are stars and light.” The size is 8″ x 10″ (20.32 cm x 25.40 cm). It is printed on archival, bright white, 100% cotton paper.

I’ve used Photoshop to enhance and create the imagery. I really enjoy creating digital art using my paintings!

Spirit Bear Painting

Spirit Bear Painting

I love it when the unexpected appears in my paintings.

This spirit bear showed up as I was painting and I love that he did!

There is much symbolism in this piece and it feels very special.

The sacred spirit bear is the keeper of dreams and memory. I like that the symbols float above him as if the dreams and memories are floating through time and space.

I’ve started listing some of my new Digital Doodle Prints on Etsy.

I love combining my Photoshop skills with my art! I’ve taken my original paintings, scanned them and then posterized and enhanced them with digital white doodles in Photoshop.

I print them on a natural white canvas paper which has texture to it so they look like a real painting. They are unstretched canvas prints. I really love the look of them.

Whimsical prints with quotes and sayings

One of my favorite things to make besides my paintings are the items I make using pieces of my art made into other things like prints. I’ve just created a new line with words and quotes.

I’ve been saving lyrics, quotes and sayings in empty books since 1975 when my parents gave me my first empty book as a gift. I quickly filled it up and purchased another and now I have 6 inspiring books filled to the gills.

It made perfect sense to me to pair some of my favorite sayings and quotes with my art. What better way to use my skills as a computer production artist and fine artist but to combine them into this line of  prints.

Below is a selection of my favorites. The watermark does not print when you purchase it. They are list for sale in my Etsy Shop. The sizes are 8″ x 10″ (20.3 cm x 27.9 cm, 11″ x 14″ (27.9 cm x 35.6 cm) and 13″ x 19″ (33 cm x  48.3 cm).

She Wanted the Rainbow

We saw a lovely rainbow behind our house the other day.
It was so inspiring and peaceful to look at.

Rainbow behind our house.

Looking at rainbows, reminds me of a Dolly Parton quote…

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow,
you gotta put up with the rain.”
– Dolly Parton

and my painting that was inspired by it.

And then, Greg and I, as we were looking at the rainbow, recalled the day that we drove through one.

It was amazing. We were driving in my truck to go downtown. This is when we lived in Bend. We saw a rainbow in the distance and we were admiring it. And then, all of a sudden, we were in the rainbow! It was like a prism. There were thousands of rainbows all around us. And then we drove out the other side! And the rainbow was gone. If we hadn’t both experienced it, no one would believe it! We were in awe. Never had we heard of this happening. It was exhilarating and wonderful and a “once in a lifetime” experience. So we love reminiscing about being in a rainbow. “Remember the time…” Brings smiles. Have you ever heard of anything like that? Being inside a rainbow?

I have colorful mini paintings for sale.

I’ve been inspired by the idea of “paint what you love” that Flora Bowley talked about in her painting e-course.

I had a square of material that had cowboy boots on it. I had purchased some soap that was wrapped up in it. I love this piece of cloth and had it in my studio.

Cowboy Boots on Cloth

Inspired, soon I was painting cowgirl boots on mini canvases.

Be Here Now

Sometimes, when I’m waiting for something, I have to remind myself to “be here now”. To be mindful that the present is where it’s at.

It’s easy to put myself into a stressful mindset, thinking about the future and where I want to be. And sometimes I can’t help myself to look back on the past to see how far I’ve been.

It’s this tug of war of past and future and that is where the stress comes in. If I can just relax and be where I am. In this moment, where everything is just fine, all will be well.

In this case, Greg and I are waiting to move to Prescott. We’re in this transitional period and sometimes we get a little antsy and wish we were further along then we are.

We are waiting on a house we put an offer on in Prescott, AZ. It’s a short sale house and you know how long those take! We want to hurry the process along but we just have to wait. Although we’ve put a deadline on ourselves that we will move on Oct. 31st even if the house doesn’t go through yet.

But when I start stressing about this whole situation,  I have to stop myself from living in the future or the past and remember to “be here now”.

I was looking at a print of my painting titled “See How Far We’ve Come” and I’m sure it represents Greg and I looking back at the path we’ve travelled.

"See How Far We've Come", Acrylic on Wood
"See How Far We've Come", Acrylic on Wood

We have done a lot in the last 4 years. We’re coming up on our 4 year anniversary of when we met each other.

It is fun to look back on past adventures and go through our photo albums of some of our trips. The memories bring joy and remind me that we are moving forward in pursuit of our dreams.

Yet, truly, it is the present, that we are living. The now. I keep reminding myself to live in this moment. Be happy with where I am and grateful for everything in my life.

I don’t want to be distracted by fretting about the future. I don’t want to miss out on what is in front of me right now.

It’s about trusting in the present and believing that everything is happening for us exactly when it is meant to happen. Yay! I like that idea. It’s so much less stressful to think that way too.

How to Love Your Sister

I have a big sister. Her name is Sherri. I call her Sher. She calls me by my middle name.

I got to spend the day with her on Sunday. We just went shopping and out to lunch. Sure, it wasn’t that big of a deal. We hit a few after Christmas sales but our time together was special.

We reminisced about our Mom who would have been joining us if she hadn’t died last Spring. We missed her. We talked about last year and how Mom found those jeans with the elastic waist band that she wore out. It brought smiles.

We split a chicken fajita for lunch and talked about my nephews. We laughed while we were trying on clothes. I love my sister for making me laugh. I made this print in honor of her. Thanks Sher for being my big sis. Love you lots.

"Meet Me at the Guardian Waters" Acrylic Painting

I know that snorkeling with the fish down in Baja inspired my new painting, “Meet Me at the Guardian Waters”.

I’ve been learning to snorkel for the past 2 years. We snorkeled in the Sea of Cortez when we camped for a few days down in Baja this year.  Although I’ve only been snorkeling a few times, I love being in the water and seeing underwater sea life. We’ve seen the most beautiful fish. Colorful ones, in lots of different sizes – some big angel fish and sting ray!

My fish in this painting although colorful are not as fancy as what I saw snorkeling. My painted fish are a bit trout-like.

I wanted to paint a family of fish with my aspen trees, with guardian trees looking over them.

Water is a big part of our life. We love being near it, in it or on it. Greg and I love taking the dogs down to the river and hanging out. Or taking the boat out to one of the gorgeous mountain lakes around Bend. We like hiking along the river or mt. biking on the river trail. I knew fish and water would make their way into one of my paintings soon and they did.

Home and Love Travel Hand and Glove

There is a poem that is one of my  favorites. It’s titled “Home and Love”. Sweet home. Sweet love. The two together are the best. See for yourself below. If you know the author’s name, let me know. (Thanks Kristen for his name)

Home and Love

Just Home and Love! the words are small

Four little letters unto each;

And yet you will not find in all

The wide and gracious range of speech

Two more so tenderly complete:

When angels talk in Heaven above,

I’m sure they have no words more sweet

Than Home and Love.

Just Home and Love! it’s hard to guess

Which of the two were best to gain;

Home without Love is bitterness;

Love without Home is often pain.

No! each alone will seldom do;

Somehow they travel hand and glove:

If you win one you must have two,

Both Home and Love.

And if you’ve both, well then I’m sure

You ought to sing the whole day long;

It doesn’t matter if you’re poor

With these to make divine your song.

And so I praisefully repeat,

When angels talk in Heaven above,

There are no words more simply sweet
Than Home and Love.

Robert William Service

It inspired one of my newest paintings. I call it “Heart and Home.”
