This is my 6x6NW Art Show Submission

Follow the White Rabbit Painting

This is my 6″ x 6″ painting that I’m submitting to the 6x6NW Art Show put on by The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Art Council.  I do enjoy donating art on occasion.

It is titled “Follow the White Rabbit.” It is an acrylic on wood panel. It features a little white bunny in a dense yet colorful forest. Is the sun setting or rising? I think it is setting. What do you think?

I grew up in Lake Forest Park so I like the idea of supporting an organization from my old neighborhood! It looks like a fun event with music and art and a raffle to win “Collectors Choice” which is the opportunity to choose the first work sold.

Their website says, “The Shoreline – Lake Forest Park Arts Council is a community-based arts organization whose mission is to cultivate creativity and inspire our community through the arts.” It think this fundraiser is pretty inspiring!

The Art Show/Fundraiser will be on Oct. 7th, from 7:00-9:30 pm at the Shoreline Community College, Student Union Building Lobby. Cost $10.

16101 Greenwood Ave N, Bldg. 9000
Shoreline, WA 98133

The shorelinearts.net website says, the “Art exhibition and fundraiser, 6X6NW will feature hundreds of 6 x 6-inch works of art from artists locally, and all over the country, in all variety of medium. This evening event will include music, food, and a chance to purchase any of the artworks for $36. Proceeds from the event support Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council programming.”

So if you are in the area and looking to purchase some mini art, this art exhibition fundraiser is not to be missed!

Follow the White Rabbit Painting

“Follow the White Rabbit,”6″ x 6”, acrylic on wood panel

When I was in my early twenties, my Mom would purchase some of my paintings and donate them to Fundraising Causes she believed in. I thought it was a pretty cool idea as my work not only was sold but it then got in front of a larger audience.

So, I’d like to donate this little painting to this event in honor of my Mom, Audrey Gruger, who had a long and distinguished career as a community activist and elected official. Audrey served on the King County Council from 1982-1993 and represented the 1st Legislative District in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1976 to 1981.

It would be interersting to know who purchased my work from back then. I did have one person a couple years ago email me as they had one of my early pieces and wanted to know more about my work. It was fun to correspond with that person.

So who will buy this piece? I hope they contact me to let me know. 🙂

Happy art shopping everyone!

Jizo Mini Paintings for Sale

Jizos Under Prayer Flags

First, I’d like to thank Rita of Nurturing Art for suggesting I paint Jizo.
Thank you Rita for your inspiration and being a supporter of my art.

I love Jizo. He is so adorable with his child-like features. I love his sweet smile and the way he puts his face up to the sky, beaming his joy and gratitude.

I didn’t know who Jizo was when I heard the name and so I Googled it.

I read in Japan, “Jizo is one of the most dearly loved of all Japanese divinities and known as the protector of women, children, and travelers.”

My new Jizo mini paintings are below. They can be found for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Here are my first two.

Online Art Sale of Mini Paintings

Are you looking for some affordable original art? A cute gift to give someone special?

I have colorful mini paintings for sale.

minipaintingsalehead

I’ve been inspired by the idea of “paint what you love” that Flora Bowley talked about in her painting e-course.

I had a square of material that had cowboy boots on it. I had purchased some soap that was wrapped up in it. I love this piece of cloth and had it in my studio.

Cowboy Boots on Cloth

Inspired, soon I was painting cowgirl boots on mini canvases.

Mini painting sale sneak peak

I’ve been having fun painting feathers. There’s something about feathers that inspires me. Maybe it is their symbolic meaning of lightness or nesting. Or maybe flight and taking off on adventurous journeys. I just like them and I like collecting them and now I like painting them.

This is one of my small feather paintings that will be available in my mini painting sale coming up in April.

I’m also working on some minis which include 5″ x 5″ canvas paintings featuring cowgirl boots. The photo shows them in progress. I’ll be finishing them up today. These are really fun and make a nice series.

You are invited to my Online Art Sale

PeaceTreesOnlineSale

You are invited to my Online Art Sale where I have mini paintings of Peace Trees, ravens, hummingbirds, an angel, bicycles and more for sale.

Many of these paintings will also be available as prints in my Etsy Shop and some are on bookmarks and magnets.

If you’re thinking that an original piece of art might make a nice gift for yourself or someone else, I wholeheartedly agree.

I always liked the saying I once saw in a gallery in Portland that said something like, “The happiest people in the world own original art.” I like that. Makes me feel good about the original art I have on my walls. Happy, happy. 🙂

Another saying I like that Greg reminded me of when he saw my Peace Tree paintings, is “Peace, back by popular demand.” That is a good one, I applaud whoever thought of it.

If you like that saying, I found this bumper sticker online at Cafepress.

For all you peace lovin’ patriots, go here http://evolvefish.com/fish/TLS-peace.html

Peace to you all!

New Mini Paintings – Original Acrylic Paintings for Sale

I’ve been really busy getting some mini paintings created. I’ve been having a lot of fun making them!

Each one feels like a little colorful jewel. They look sweet all together especially when they’re hung on the wall in multiples. Some of them will be in a Small Works show opening on Dec. 3rd at the Tumalo Art Co. and some will be for sale on my website beginning Dec. 8th.

Dec.2010MiniPaintings

I especially like these bicycle paintings. They are a little larger than my mini size which is 5 x 5 inch. I made them 8 x 8 inch which I like. It’s a little bit bigger size but still small. They’re painted on canvas with gallery wrapped sides so the image wraps around the edge. They’re wired and ready to hang.

I made these little paintings with bicycles because I heard about the Cross Culture: Bike + Art Love event which coincides with the Cyclocross Nationals here in Bend, Oregon. There are lots of events happening around town Dec. 9-12 that are bike and art related.

The bikearoundbend.com website says the event “pairs bike-centric artists with Bend businesses, inviting opportunities to meet the artist while enjoying a festive atmosphere.” What a cool idea.

So that got me thinking about bikes! If you know me, you know I love my mountain bike. So I thought it would be fun to make some little paintings with a bike in them. And it was fun! I like how they turned out.

I also liked this mini raven painting. The colors just glow in it.

Another one of my favorites is this one with the bird’s nest and little bitty blue eggs. I imagine it to be a ravens nest. Although raven eggs have spots on them and aren’t this blue…but still…it’s all from my imagination so it can be whatever I want it to be. Oh, the beauty of painting from one’s imagination. Love it!

I liked using the white paint to create the nest pattern. I might try some more of this. What do you think of this technique? I’d love to know your opinion.

Check out more of my mini’s on Dec. 8th where I’ll have them for sale on my website. If you would like to get a reminder email about the sale, sign up for my e-Newsletter.

I see it’s snowing a bit outside. It’s fun to watch.

Wishing you all things that glitter and sparkle!
