How to be a Happy Person

how to be happy

Wouldn’t you like to be a happy person? I know I do.

I’ve been thinking about happiness lately as I’ve been affected by the state of politics in the world.

I’ve felt anger, bitterness, sadness, disbelief and more! Not a lot of positivity in some of these feelings. Maybe you’ve felt some of these too?

Happiness Factor

So I thought I would make a printable PDF for you to download that might help you find your happiness factor.

It’s titled “How to become the happy person you are meant to be.” I try to do a lot of the things on this list daily! I hope it helps inspire you. And if you’re feeling down, may it help you implement some of the suggestions to lift your spirit!

Foremost, engage in those things that
make you feel happy.

• Surround yourself with positive, upbeat friends.

or doing a chore they don’t like doing.

Positive Affirmation Card Decks as Digital Downloads

Intention cards

Positive affirmations are one tool I use for creating the life that I want to live. I believe they help me manifest my goals and keep positive energy running through my life.

They can help you get to the heart of what you want to create in your life. It’s sort of like reprogramming your mind to think a certain way. I believe we are what we think we are. So using positive affirmations is self-talk that can benefit you in lots of ways!

Above all, the way you phrase positive affirmations is if they are already true. Not that you would like them to be true but that they already are true!

Card from the Intentions Deck
Card from the Intentions Deck

Sometimes your mind will register a negative word even though you are saying it positively. So be careful how you word affirmations. You may say, “I no longer feel stress” but the word stress is what your mind hears so if you say instead, “I feel peace within”  you are more apt to actually feel peaceful.

To help you with having positive affirmations in your life, I’ve created a few digital downloads of positive affirmation cards which you can purchase inexpensively in my Etsy Shop. Print them out and use them in your personal projects. They are not for commercial use or for reselling.

1.
a thing intended; an aim or plan.

Get started using intentions with this colorful card deck. By setting an intention before you get up in the morning or before your meditation or yoga practice, it allows the Universe to know how you would like your life to proceed. My Intention card deck comes with an instruction sheet on how to use them with intention sentences.

Artist Use of the Intention Deck

If you are an artist, you can also use these cards to inspire you while you paint! Are you stuck with what to paint next? Pick a card from the deck, for example it might be the “Passion” card. What mark or image can you make that represents that word? Maybe use red in your next paint stroke, or make a heart or kiss shape.

Then pick another card. Maybe it is the “Quiet” card. What represents that word? Is it a soft breeze? A light stroke? Paint what you feel when you think of that word. Or use the colors from the cards. Pick a card and use the colors from it in your next paint strokes. Let your imagination take over and tap into your intuition.

New Whimsical Tree Painting with Floating Moon Shadows

Whimsical Tree Painting

Floating moons. A tattooed tree. Brilliant shades of blue.

This is my latest whimsical tree painting titled “One Stood in the Shadow of the Floating Moons II.” I call my whimsical trees with the tattooed bark “Peace Trees.” Peace Trees represent peace and good will. Often times I will have prayer flags with them. This one has floating moons.

Whimsical Tree Painting

When I first created painting #1 with the same title, I was in Prescott, AZ. I had never heard of floating moon shadows. I just came up with the name after I painted it. This painting was one of three whimsical trees in a triptych. I was showing it at the gallery in Prescott, AZ called Van Gogh’s Ear. It sold quickly.

I liked it so much I made a card and a print out of it. You can find the print in my Etsy shop.

Moon Shadows

Last summer, during the solar eclipse, I definitely saw moon shadows! I immediately had to take photos! The moon shadows (or maybe they are reflections of light?) were floating on our garage.

Wow, it was amazing! They were all over our property. It was pretty cool.

Recently I was thinking about the floating moons and decided to paint another peace tree painting with them.

Favorite Titles

I have to admit I love the title. “One Stood in the Shadow of the Floating Moons” sounds like a lyrical poem when I say it which makes me happy. Just like my paintings.

Some of my other favorite titles are “Big Sun, Hidden Buddha,” “She Built Her Nest with Flowers and Bits of Sky” and “Red Dog Sleeps Under the Light of the Moon.

Did you see any floating moons during the solar eclipse? Any fav titles that you can share?

Inspirational Card Deck and New Whimsical Greeting Cards

As some of you know, I’ve been doing my positive affirmations on a daily basis. I like to pick an affirmation and then repeat it during the day. If you don’t know this now, then I will tell you…this commitment to yourself, committing to the possiblities of your dreams by saying positive affirmations and acknowledging where you want your life to lead, really works! It creates a shift. A movement toward  creating the life you want to live.

I decided to make myself a little card deck to help with this and now I’ve created some for you too. They’re in my Etsy Shop if you would like to purchase one.

Part 2: One Artist’s Journey – 10-20 yrs old

Continuing my 5 part series on my Artist Journey…

13yrsBeach girl.

This is me at 13, I dug a big hole at the beach and put a great big log into it. I can’t remember now what I was building but I remember everyone was pretty supportive. I was pretty lucky growing up. Most of my creative endeavors had my family’s support.

1970'sart

Can you tell I grew up in the 70’s from these paintings? I loved creating art in junior high and high school. I graduated in 1977.

We had lots of art books around our house. The big coffee table kind. We would flip through them and see amazing art! I was impressed by all the great art masters. I liked colorful art. I liked the abstract and surreal art.

I mostly loved making fantasy art! I made my first set of greeting card designs when I was 19. I didn’t know how to market them back then though but a lot of my relatives bought them. Thank goodness for family.

I had a vivid imagination. I liked to think up characters and draw them. I used pen and ink, graphite pencil, watercolor, sometimes acrylics. Looks like I had a fascination with aliens.

LGG-Alien2-low

LGG-Alien1-lowMaybe it was the stories I had heard about flying saucers and alien abductions. I remember there was talk about that back then. Maybe I was feeling a little alien myself as a teenager.

I also kept small sketch books and filled them up with line drawings. In fact, I had journals of all kinds.

I started my dream journal in 1977. I still have it! It’s a pretty big, thick, green notebook. I would record my dreams and sometimes try to interpret them with what I called my “day notes”, trying to see if I could tie what happened during the day with my dreams. I was trying to make sense of life. Isn’t that what one’s teens are all about? Figuring stuff out. It would be what spurred my interest in studying psychology and dream work when I got older.

castlebubble

I also was given my first “empty book” during this time. It was 1975. Inscribed on the front inside cover, my parents wrote, “This book of blank pages is given to our daughter….we know that her creativity will make it a thing of beauty and inspiration.” I thought it was a pretty cool idea. A book of blank pages, that I was going to fill up!

journals-low

I’ve collected 6 of these books over the years. I filled them with writings, collected quotes and sayings, line drawings, cool song lyrics, collage, sketches, painting titles, anything that inspired me. I still have one going to this day. If you have a creative child, I totally recommend giving them an “empty” book.

In later years, I would start a “grateful” journal.  Sarah Ban Breathnach who wrote the Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude says, “if you give thanks for five gifts every day, in two months you may not look at your life in the same way as you might now.”  I love the idea of transformation and being grateful. I like to take pause and remember what happened during my day that I am grateful for and give thanks!

I’m in love with this idea about nurturing the creative spirit. Finding ways to improve myself and also be inspired and create! I heard someone say though, they don’t like to be inspired because when that happens they’re distracted and not creating. They were saying, being inspired is overrated. When you’re too busy being inspired, you’re not creating. I disagree, for me, I love being inspired and I think I create best when I have books and photos and art around me that bring me joy and beauty and inspiration.

A great book about nurturing the creative spirit is Kelly Rae Roberts’ book Taking Flight, inspiration and techniques for giving your creative spirit wings. I love the stories and this book is the story of a creative artist who will inspire you, give techniques, inspiring quotes, pages for journaling, all to help your creative spirit soar!

I also started some larger sketchbook journals during my teens. You could call me a journal geek. Do you have a journal? What kind is it and what do you put into it?

I remember winning an award as a senior in high school for one of my paintings. A landscape of ocean dunes. I was thrilled to have my art acknowledged by more than my family and friends. I thought maybe I wanted to be an illustrator or maybe a graphic designer. I was sure I wanted to be some kind of an artist and go to college. And I did. I’ll write more about my college years and my twenties in Part 3 of my Artist Journey series.

Postcrossing.com Postcards and Travel

I do love to travel! But since my purse strings are tight right now, I decided to join Postcrossing.com This is a website where you send and recieve postcards from all over the world! And a great way to discover new places to travel! I find it very inspiring. It’s fun to see the stamps and images from the cards and getting a hand written message from someone.

I also love getting mail. Real mail that you get in the mailbox. It is like getting a little gift when you get a letter from someone. Somebody took the time to address it and write a note. It’s special! So I get little gifts of messages from people all over the world…people sending me a postcard! How fun is that?

I also like to make original Art postcards occasionally and love to send them out into the world that way. On one’s Postcrossing profile you can specify what kinds of postcards you’d like to receive. There are a lot of people collecting different kinds of cards, for example, cityscapes, animals, humorous, art, etc.

My first postcard received was from Finland

FInland postcard of witchThen Portugal.

Portugal ObidosRussia next.

Russia Heart Postcard

And then Brasil.Brasil Tucano Postcard

All the postcards I received have a little note written on them, either about themselves or their homeland. On Postcrossing you can track your postcards travel time and where they came from  and where they’re going to. There’s a map showing how the postcards travel and it updates itself automatically. It’s fun to watch. It’s a pretty neat system.

I hadn’t thought of traveling to Portugal before. But in reading about it, it looks like an interesting country. What are some of your favorite travel spots? Anybody have some recommendations?

I’m looking forward to receiving more postcards and  wondering where they will come from next!
