I'm taking Bloom True: the e-course by Flora Bowley starting today

I’m very excited to start the Bloom True: the e-course by Flora Bowley today. I have been following Flora’s art for some time and love her use of color and imagery! She inspires me with her work and lifestyle of travel, teaching and creating the life that she wants. So go to her website and check out the e-course. I think she will inspire you too. This is where I’ll be creating my work in my art studio. I took…

Transforming my art studio

I was going to do a post about 2011 and my story about getting to where we are now in Prescott, AZ but then I decided nope, I’m going to start blogging about today, right now. Sorry the story is getting a skip in it since I haven’t been writing much lately. But just know that things are straightening themselves out and I’m getting back on track with my art. First thing up, getting my art studio ready to work…

Finally in our new home

Happy New Year! We’re celebrating because we finally got into our new home in Prescott, Arizona! Wow, it was a challenge to get here but we finally made it! We love the property and the view and the quiet. This house is a fixer upper though. We’re already on hands and knees, tearing up carpet and taking down the stuff we don’t need like the old shelving and yucky wood wall board in my art studio. There is cat fencing to…

On the Right Path, Right Now

I often paint paths in my work. You will see paths up mountains. Paths over rivers. Paths to the beach I believe our Life Path is leading us to where we need to go. Our choices surely have an effect on where life will lead us but I also believe things happen exactly when they are supposed to happen and last exactly as long as they are supposed to last and we learn from these experiences exactly what we are…

The Beauty of Blogging

The beauty of blogging is that it’s your blog and you can blog about anything you’d like! My blog is about my art and artist’s journey and offering tips about things that can help other artists with their biz and about our travels when we’re not making art but sometimes I sway off course and blog about other things. This is one of those “other” things. This post is about beauty products. There have been a couple people that have asked…

A Love of Art & Letters

I’ve had a love of Art & Letters for quite some time now. When I was in high school I used to write letters and decorate them and send them to one of my best friends. As an artist, I think it is a powerful way to express one’s self, the mix of words with one’s art. I grew up in North Seattle and she on Mercer Island. We mostly saw each other at church on Sundays, if that. She came…

I Made Another YouTube Art Video

It’s not that making videos is that hard on my MacBook. I use iMovie and it’s pretty intuitive. But it’s hard to find the time! And I can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of that annoying sound, the hummm, that is in the background of my voice talking. Oh well, it is an exercise in letting go and saying, “things do not have to be perfect.” I just wanted to get it done and share with you…

Artist Interview: Cindy Davis

It’s been awhile since I’ve done an artist interview so I thought it was about time for another. In the past, I’ve interviewed artists Amy Komar, Miriam Badyrka, and Chris Ambrose and now I’d like to introduce Cindy Davis. As you know, I love whimsical, colorful art and that is what Cindy specializes in. I love her new flower series but I’ll let her explain more about that. Below is some of Cindy’s art and her interview. Enjoy! What is your name…

Be Here Now

Sometimes, when I’m waiting for something, I have to remind myself to “be here now”. To be mindful that the present is where it’s at. It’s easy to put myself into a stressful mindset, thinking about the future and where I want to be. And sometimes I can’t help myself to look back on the past to see how far I’ve been. It’s this tug of war of past and future and that is where the stress comes in. If…

We're Living in a Shoe

Greg said the other day, “We’re living in a shoe.” That cracked me up! We are staying in a small space! It may feel like a shoe but it’s a a Supreme Rocket! A Silver Streak trailer. And it’s magical at night when we turn on the star lights at dusk. And look out at the canyon. And the reflections bounce about from the breeze and cast diamond shaped shadows. We are enjoying ourselves and I know all those times…

I have a tipi art studio for 5 weeks

For the next 5 weeks, my art studio is a lovely tipi! It’s awesome! I feel like I’m on a painting retreat. Many of you know that I own my own tipi so when I found out that the place where we are temporarily staying at had a tipi on the property, I was very happy! There’s just something about tipis that I love. Maybe it’s the cozy womb-like feeling inside a tipi. I knew it would make a great art studio…

Joys of Moving

We’ve spent the last few weeks packing up our house and getting ready to move to some temporary housing before we head to Prescott, Arizona. It was a gorgeous day and a great get together! And then it was time to get…

My own definition of Metamorphoses

n. pl. met·a·mor·pho·ses = change into a new form, or a new place We are morphing. We are letting go of things. Lots of things. We are lightening up. Shedding what we don’t need. Packing the things we love and saying good bye to the “stuff” we don’t. It feels great to get rid of things we haven’t used in years or that we have multiples of. We are using Craigslist a lot and it’s working great! It feels like…

Exciting changes are ahead

Big changes are in our future!  Life is taking us in a new direction and we’re excited to follow a path that we’ve dreamed about and talked about and now is happening. We’re learning to trust the journey because when we do, the rewards are amazing. We’ve been talking about moving out of Central Oregon for awhile and we did some exploring this past year, looking for a good spot to move to. When Greg and I both felt excitement…

Video of my Baja Art Studio

It took me awhile to finally make a video of my Baja art studio but here it is. We were there in May and June of this year. I’ve had people ask me what it looks like so I thought this would help you visualize it. It’s pretty nice to have walls and big windows with shutters to let the light in. They also keep out the dust and wind when it picks up. Take a look. Sharing is nice…

How I got inspired by lanterns

This lantern below was made by my fiancé Greg Gaskill. I’ve been watching him create beautiful raku ceramic lanterns. Raku Lantern by Greg Gaskill, sold We’ve talked about how they illuminate and cast shadows. We’ve talked about the other lanterns we have in our home. The hanging one’s we have on the back deck that are made of punched tin from Mexico. I love the star pattern on them. Then there are the solar lanterns we have along the walkway. And the…

My Fur Ball painting donation

The video is from a visit to Kitty Heaven when we were down in Todos Santos. These adorable kittens were being cared for there and are up for adoption. They were so sweet and playful! We were so tempted to adopt one these babies. Our neighbor down in Todos Santos runs Kitty Heaven which is a kitty shelter for homeless cats and kittens in the area. She also helps put on the Fur Ball which raises funds to help spay…

Art & Chocolate are a Sweet Combination at sweetriot

One day last year, I was in Whole Foods Market with a big chocolate craving! I stood in the candy aisle looking over the selection of chocolates trying to decide which one would satisfy my dark chocolate craving. My eye was drawn to a row of cute little tins with cool, colorful art on them! I noticed the company was named sweetriot. I purchased a tin. These little tins were packed full of sweet dark chocolate “peaces”. They were so…

Donation Painting for the Fur Ball Fundraiser

Last year and now again this year, I’ve painted a piece to donate to the Todos Santos Fur Ball which will be held the end of January in 2012. The Furball is a fundraiser that has been held over the years and is organized by our friend Angelique in Todos Santos. It raises money to spay and neuter the dogs and cats of Todos Santos and Pescadero in Baja Mexico which is really important in these small towns. My painting is…

A Mt. Bike Ride to the Hidden Harbor

Last year we tried to do this mt. bike ride but got our truck stuck in the sand and never made it. So this year we tried again and had a great ride! We started at a beach that locals call Fisherman’s Beach. It is where all the fishing boats are launched and come in every morning and afternoon. On the other side of Fisherman’s Beach is a beautiful bay that Greg and I call “The Hidden Harbor”. It is…

"Two Ravens Sit and Reflect" Painting Series

I wanted to share two raven paintings that I finished the other day. I’ve been working on this raven series titled “Two Ravens Sit and Reflect” for awhile now and I finished two more paintings for it. I like the play on words that I use in the titles for these paintings. The first one is titled “Two Ravens Sit and Reflect on the Waves.” Inspired from when we went to the beach the other day and watched the surfers…
